MP Ihor Huz threatens to evict UOC monks from St. Nicholas Miletsky Monastery in Volyn and transfer the monastery to the OCU

Ukrainian MP Ihor Huz has publicly threatened to evict the brethren from the ancient St. Nicholas Miletsky Monastery of the Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Volyn. According to him, this is due to the expiration of the lease of the monastery buildings and the intention to transfer the monastery to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. The religious community, in turn, declares the legality of their stay and readiness to defend their rights in court.
MP Guz posted a video message on his official Facebook page. In it, he explains his actions by the expiration of the lease agreement for the monastery buildings located in the village of Miltsi, Kovel district, Volyn region.
In addition to the eviction notice, Ihor Huz also announced plans to transfer the monastery to the OCU, emphasizing that he had already held talks with its leadership and representatives in Volyn. However, the religious community of St. Nicholas Monastery in Mileti insists on the legality of their stay in the monastery and expresses its readiness to defend its rights in the legal field, which the politician called «threats by the courts.»
The St. Nicholas Monastery of Mylets of the UOC is one of the oldest Orthodox shrines in Volyn. It is known as a place of constant prayer and spiritual life, and its monastic brethren, according to the source, restored the monastery from ruins on their own, turning it into a significant spiritual center of the region.
Earlier, the odious head of the Volyn Diocese of the OCU, Mikhail Zinkevich , spoke about which churches and monasteries he would be able to take away from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Volyn thanks to Law No. 8371 adopted by the Verkhovna Rada. According to Zinkevich, the state will transfer one of the cathedrals and several monasteries, which are architectural monuments, to the ownership of the Volyn Diocese of the OCU.
