U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed condolences on the death of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sent an official message of deep condolences to the Georgian people on the death of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II. In his address, the head of U.S. diplomacy noted the invaluable role of the spiritual leader and his significant contribution to the history of the country.
According to Orthodox Times, Marco Rubio emphasized that the memory of the patriarch will live in the hearts of future generations. «We mourn the passing of His Holiness Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia and express our sincere condolences to the people of Georgia, as well as to all the faithful of the Georgian Orthodox Church,» the text of the statement reads. Rubio also added that the «spiritual leadership and enduring legacy» of Ilia II will remain an important reference point for the faithful, wishing the patriarch a peaceful repose.
Recall, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent an official message of condolences to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on the death of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II. The Turkish head of state expressed deep sympathy to the Orthodox community and the entire Georgian people over this irreparable loss.
