A monastic tonsure was performed in the UOC nunnery in Kyiv region

on March 24, 2026 in the convent in honor of the icon of the Mother of God “Joy and Consolation”, located in the village of Velyka Olshanka, Kyiv region, a solemn divine service was held, during which a nun was tonsured.

According to the information resource of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church with reference to the Facebook page of Archbishop Iona of Obukhov, the rite was performed with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv and All Ukraine. Nun Seraphima, who retained her former name at the naming, was tonsured into the small schema.

The tonsure was performed by the clergyman of the monastery, Archbishop Jonah of Obukhov. At the end of the ceremony, the vladyka addressed the newly tonsured with a farewell address, congratulating her and wishing her God’s help in carrying the feat of nunnery and spiritual ascent.

Recall that from March 19 to March 22, 2026 in a number of women’s monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church solemn rites of monastic tonsure took place. The new nuns took the angelic image in Mykhnovsky, Krasnogorsk and Florovsky monasteries.
