OCU disbanded a monastery for the sake of settling monks in Kyiv Cave Monastery

on April 3, 2026, the Synod of the OCU decided to dissolve the Kyiv St. Theodosius Monastery with the subsequent inclusion of the monks of the monastery in the «brethren» of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. In turn, according to the order of the Synod, the premises of the Theodosius Monastery will now be used to house a convent of the OCU. This is reported by the press service of the organization.

«In order to further develop women’s monasticism in the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the Synod blessed to transform the St. Theodosius Monastery of the OCU in Kyiv into the St. Theodosius Monastery of the OCU in Kyiv, to make appropriate changes and additions to the Statute of the monastery, to set it out in a new edition and to carry out its state registration. In this regard, upon completion of the state registration of the new version of the monastery’s Statute, it was decided to dismiss Archimandrite Makariy (Papish) from the post of abbot. The Synod blessed the brethren of the St. Theodosius Monastery to join the brethren of the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra,» the statement reads.

Earlier, we reported that the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine transferred the first two buildings on the territory of the Lower Lavra to the representatives of the OCU for free use. We are talking about the 49th and 70th buildings — the residences of the Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine and the Chancellery of the Kyiv Metropolis.
