"We are not orcs!": Right Sector leader calls on OCU and UGCC to celebrate Easter with RCC

The commander of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army (UDA) and former leader of the right-wing radical organization Right Sector, Dmytro Yarosh, has initiated a change in the church calendar for Ukrainian believers. He called on the OCU and the UGCC to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ simultaneously «with most countries of the world» in order to distance themselves from Russian traditions. He wrote about this in his Telegram channel.

In the text of the post, Dmytro Yarosh emphasized that Ukrainian Christians should not celebrate Easter «like orcs» and called on religious organizations to hold celebrations «together with the whole world.»

According to the head of the UDA, from a spiritual point of view, the exact date of the celebration may not be crucial, but the current situation, in which Ukraine celebrates this day separately from the Western Christian community, seems to him «wrong.»

«We are not orcs! Therefore, I call on the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church to celebrate Easter when the whole world celebrates it!» Yarosh wrote on his Telegram channel.

As reported earlier, Pope Leo and Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople initiated a discussion of the possibility of establishing a common date for the celebration of E aster for Christians of the Western and Eastern rites.
