A monastic tonsure was performed in the UOC monastery in Sumy region

on April 5, 2026, on the feast of the Entrance of the Lord into Jerusalem, in the Nativity of the Mother of God Molchenska nunnery of the UOC in Putivl, Sumy region, a solemn event took place — the performance of monastic tonsure of two clergymen.

According to the press service of Konotop diocese of the UOC, the rite of tonsure in the church in honor of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God was headed by Metropolitan Roman of Konotop and Glukhov. In the course of the service, the priest-priest Philaret received the name in honor of the Righteous Philaret the Merciful, and deacon Nikolai was tonsured in honor of the Monk Vassian of Uglitsk-Ryabovsky.

At the conclusion of the service, Vladyka Roman addressed the newly tonsured monks with spiritual instructions, emphasizing the significance of the vows they had taken. It should be noted that on the same day a similar spiritual event took place at the Sophronievo-Molchensky Monastery of the UOC in the village of Novaya Sloboda, where the monks were tonsured into the great schema.
