In Cherkasy, the court extended the measure of restraint for Metropolitan Theodosius of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church

The Sosnovskyy district court in Cherkasy has decided to extend the measure of restraint for the administrator of the Cherkasy diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Feodosiy (Snigirev), who is a defendant in several criminal cases. According to the court ruling of April 13, the bishop will remain under personal commitment for two more months.
According to «Suspilne,» prosecutor Vadym Kolomiets insisted on the necessity of this measure, pointing to «existing risks.» According to the prosecution, «the defendant may abscond from the investigation, put pressure on witnesses or continue to commit offenses». In turn, the defense side expressed categorical disagreement with the motion. Metropolitan Theodosius’ lawyers, Tamara Gridenko and Vladimir Yudin, emphasized that the risks are stale and unfounded, since all key witnesses and experts have already been questioned, and the bishop himself has not committed any procedural violations.
It is worth noting that personal commitment is the most lenient preventive measure under the CPC of Ukraine. It imposes a number of obligations on the accused, such as attendance on the first call and restriction of movement, but is not associated with isolation from society. Previously, Metropolitan Theodosius was under overnight house arrest, but in March 2025 the measure was mitigated by the court.
Legal proceedings against the hierarch have lasted for three years. In total, he was charged with five suspicions, the first of which was initiated by the Security Service of Ukraine in February 2023. At the moment, the trial continues in terms of consideration of the joint proceedings.
