In the Serbian cathedral in Buenos Aires, thirteen Argentines converted to Orthodoxy on Easter Eve

The Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Buenos Aires, Argentina, celebrated the reception of thirteen new members into the fold of the Church. The group of local residents, consisting of ten adults and three children, received the sacrament of baptism on Holy Saturday, April 11, 2026, the eve of the celebration of Holy Resurrection.
According to Orthodoxia News Agency, the celebratory Divine Liturgy was led by Archpriest Stefan Jovanovic and Hieromonk David (Yanketich). All the newly baptized are Argentineans, who have been undergoing a special course of catechesis at the cathedral for several months. On Easter Day, April 12, they took part in the sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time, together with many parishioners, among whom the Charge d’Affaires of the Serbian Embassy in Argentina, Dejan Blagojevic, was present.
A special atmosphere was added to the celebration by the fact that the service was held for the first time in a church decorated with new frescoes, which were completed in March of this year. During the liturgy, the faithful received a greeting from Bishop Kyrill of Buenos Aires, South and Central America, and the Easter message of His Holiness Patriarch Porfiry of Serbia was read to the faithful. Archpriest Stefan Jovanovic emphasized the significance of this event, noting that the arrival of new members is a great joy for the entire Church, fulfilling Christ’s commandment to «go and make disciples of all nations.»
After the conclusion of the service, a festive dinner was held in the cathedral hall. As part of the celebration, gratitude was expressed to the benefactors of the temple, in particular Mr. Marcelo Paz and representatives of the Friolim company, for their contribution to the development of the Serbian community in Buenos Aires. The faithful traditionally exchanged Easter eggs, greeting each other with the words «Christ is Risen! Truly risen!».
