Ex-member of Kyiv Council, who organized provocations near Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, sentenced to 5 years in prison for committing a traffic accident

The Obolonskiy district court of Kyiv has passed a sentence on former Kiev council deputy Yaryna Aryeva in the case of a traffic accident with serious consequences. The court found her guilty of violating traffic rules, sentencing her to 5 years of imprisonment with release from serving it with a probationary period of 3 years. About it reports the Information and educational Department of the UOC.
The incident occurred in 2023, when Aryeva, while driving a car, hit a woman at a crosswalk. As a result of the accident the victim received serious bodily injuries. According to the investigation materials, at the time of the accident the defendant was in a state of drug intoxication under the influence of cannabis. However, when rendering the verdict, the court softened the qualification of the case, excluding the paragraph on drug intoxication from the charges.
The prosecution, represented by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, requested a stricter sentence of 6 years of real imprisonment. Due to the leniency of the sentence and disagreement with the exclusion of aggravating circumstances, the prosecutor’s office officially announced its intention to file an appeal.
It is worth noting that Yaryna Aryeva is the daughter of a former MP from the European Solidarity party and previously took an active part in organizing protests near the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
