The baptism of eight local people took place in Vietnam

At the end of March in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) a significant event for the Orthodox community of the region took place: eight local residents officially joined the Church through the sacrament of baptism. According to OrthoChristian with reference to the data of the Philippine-Vietnamese Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, the ceremony took place on Saturday, March 28.
The sacrament was performed in the Church of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Acceptance of the faith was preceded by a long period of catechesis (oglesis), during which the future parishioners studied the basics of Orthodox doctrine and prepared for the conscious step of joining the community.
Eight newly baptized men were given names in honor of revered saints: Gabriel, Christopher, Michael, Benjamin, Luke, George, Timothy and Nicephorus. This event testifies to the growing interest in Orthodoxy in Vietnam and the active missionary work of the diocese in Southeast Asia.
