Patriarch Bartholomew sent a letter of support to Donald Trump after the White House dinner incident

Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople has expressed official support for US President Donald Trump, the First Lady and all those injured in the attack that took place during the White House Correspondents’ Association gala dinner. In his address, the head of the Phanar emphasized the need to strongly oppose violence and hatred in modern society.

According to the Orthodoxia News Agency, in his letter to the American leader, Patriarch Bartholomew thanked God that the presidential couple was not hurt. The head of the Church of Constantinople expressed particular concern about the health of the US Secret Service officer, who was injured in the line of duty, wishing him a speedy recovery.

In the text of the message, the Patriarch characterized the incident as a serious reminder of the «fragility of human security.» According to him, such acts of aggression, especially at events dedicated to democratic values and public communication, dictate the urgent need to reject bigotry and any form of hostility. His Holiness also expressed support for all services responsible for law enforcement and the protection of public figures.
