Primate of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus congratulated the new Patriarch of Georgia on his election

Archbishop George of Cyprus sent an official congratulatory message to the newly elected Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Shio on the occasion of his canonical election to the Patriarchal Throne. In his address, the head of the Church of Cyprus expressed his deep joy and conveyed warm congratulations on behalf of the entire hierarchy and flock of the island.

According to the Greek news agency Romfea.gr, the letter, dated May 12, 2026, emphasizes the special historical role of the Georgian Church. Archbishop George noted that it has for many centuries been characterized by its unwavering fidelity to the Orthodox faith and the devotion of its pious people, now entering a new phase of its ministry under the paternal leadership of His Beatitude Shio.

The Primate of the Church of Cyprus concluded his message by wishing the new Patriarch of Mtskheta and Tbilisi «health, longevity and all wisdom from above.» Archbishop George expressed his prayerful hope that the ministry of the Catholicos-Patriarch will be God-pleasing and will bring spiritual benefit to the clergy and laity of all Georgia.
