The United States has expressed its support for the historic status of St. Catherine's Monastery on Mount Sinai

Archbishop Simeon of Sinai, Faran, and Raif received a high-level delegation from the United States led by Massad Boulos, President Donald Trump’s advisor on Middle East and African affairs. According to Vima Orthodoxias, the meeting took place in Cairo amid ongoing negotiations between the monastery and Egyptian authorities regarding the preservation of the monastery’s historic status quo.

During the official meeting, U.S. representatives, including embassy staff, expressed deep respect for the centuries-old spiritual heritage of St. Catherine’s Monastery. Massad Boulos conveyed President Donald Trump’s personal interest in the issue of protecting the monument, emphasizing that Washington supports the preservation of the historical, religious, and cultural integrity of one of the world’s oldest active Christian monasteries.

The visit comes at a critical time for the Sinai monastery, which is engaged in complex consultations with Egyptian government authorities. Despite existing concerns within the international community regarding the monastery’s future, Archbishop Simeon expressed cautious optimism. According to His Eminence, agreements are expected to be reached by the end of the summer that will guarantee the protection of the monastery’s special status and mission as a unique symbol of Orthodoxy and a part of the world’s cultural heritage.
