Randall Wallace Revealed Details About the Production of the Sequel to *The Passion of the Christ* and Mel Gibson's Warning

Work on the long-awaited sequel to Mel Gibson’s biblical drama *The Passion of the Christ* is accompanied by serious spiritual reflections and creative challenges. According to Christian Today, screenwriter Randall Wallace said that at the beginning of their collaboration on the project *The Resurrection of Christ*, Gibson warned him about the spiritual trials they would face.

According to the source, the idea for a sequel came to Wallace during the promotional tour for the film *Hacksaw Ridge* in 2016. The screenwriter emphasized that Gibson set a fundamental condition: work on the film should not be driven by financial goals or intended as a response to detractors. It was at that very moment that Mel Gibson uttered these prophetic words: “ ‘Satan will come for you.” Wallace admitted that, despite the joking tone at the time, those words sparked a deep conversation about grace, which formed the basis of their collaborative work on the screenplay.

The project, on which Mel Gibson’s brother, Donal Gibson, is also working, has undergone significant changes in its production schedule. According to the publication, the first part of the “Resurrection of Christ” duology will be released on May 6, 2027, and the second is scheduled for May 25, 2028. The new film will feature an entirely new cast: Jaakko Ohtonen will play the role of Jesus, replacing Jim Caviezel. This decision was made to avoid costly CGI-based de-aging techniques.
