The Chief Rabbi of Kyiv has vouched for the deputy head of the Presidential Office, who is accused of large-scale corruption

Chief Rabbi of Kyiv Yonatan Markovich has officially expressed his willingness to vouch for Irina Mudraya, the former deputy head of the Office of the President, who is suspected of corruption offenses. The statement was made during a court hearing at the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine.

During his testimony , Yonatan Markovich confirmed that he is aware of the legal responsibilities that come with the status of guarantor. The rabbi noted that he has known Irina Mudra for several years and that she regularly attended the JCC BEIT Menachem KYIV congregation. According to the religious leader, his confidence in the suspect’s integrity is based on her participation in community life and religious ceremonies.

“I am confident that she will not let down the community, me, or the state,” — Markovich emphasized, adding that Mudra has always been responsible in fulfilling her spiritual obligations. It is worth noting that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has charged Mudraya with corruption on an especially large scale, citing audio recordings in which she allegedly discusses the need to systematize and control corrupt practices.

As a reminder, on November 18, 2025, Bishop Mikhail Anishchenko, the Exarch of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in Ukraine, made an unexpected proposal to vouch for former Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Chernyshov, who is the main suspect in a case involving corruption and illicit enrichment. The initiative was announced during a court hearing on the selection of a pretrial measure, where the prosecution requested that Chernyshov be held in custody with an alternative bail of 55 million hryvnia.
