A meeting took place in Kyiv between the head of the Institute of National Memory and a representative of Montenegro's non-canonical church

Alexander Alferov, head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, met in Kyiv with Bojan Bojović, who leads an organization that calls itself the “Montenegrin Orthodox Church.” Alferov wrote about this on his Facebook page.

In his social media post, Alexander Alferov described Bojović as a longtime acquaintance with whom he studied at the theological academy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church–Kyiv Patriarchate. According to the official, the organization represented by his guest is undergoing “significant shifts toward institutionalization and consolidation.” However, this event drew criticism from members of the clergy: in particular, Archbishop Ion of Obukhov called Bojović a representative of a “fake church,” emphasizing that such contacts call into question the level of awareness among government officials.

It is worth noting that the so-called “Montenegrin Orthodox Church” was founded in the 1990s and is not recognized by the global Orthodox community. Within Montenegro, the Serbian Orthodox Church, represented by the Metropolis of Montenegro and the Littoral, remains the sole canonical structure. Previously, there had already been a stir in church circles due to Bojović’s participation in joint events with representatives of the OCU and the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
