In Pereyaslav, museum officials granted the OCU access to St. Michael's Cathedral, which had been taken away from the UOC

The administration of the “Pereyaslav” National Historical and Ethnographic Reserve has officially granted representatives of the OCU access to St. Michael’s Cathedral, which previously belonged to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). The corresponding agreement on the free use of the cathedral was signed on August 24, 2026.

According to , under the terms of the agreement concluded between the reserve’s acting director, Marina Navalna, and OCU representative Alexander Drabinko, divine services in the cathedral will be held according to a strictly approved schedule. This decision was a continuation of a process that began with the forcible seizure of the property from the UOC community.

As a reminder, on May 11, 2026, the St. Michael’s Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in Pereyaslav was forcibly seized. Representatives of the police and the “Pereyaslav” National Historical and Ethnographic Reserve, with the support of special forces, expelled the abbot and parishioners from the monastery, completely blocking access to the sacred site.
