A Polish Member of the European Parliament has sharply criticized Ukraine’s policy on historical memory

Ewa Zajączkowska-Gernik, a Member of the European Parliament from Poland, expressed strong dissatisfaction with Ukraine’s current course in the area of historical policy, specifically the creation of the National Pantheon of Heroes. According to the politician, commemorating UPA figures involved in mass murders is an insult to the Polish people.

On her account on X , Zayonchkovska-Gernik highlighted the contradiction between providing Ukraine with large-scale military and financial aid and its ideological actions. “We’re giving them valuable equipment and paying off their loans, while they spit in our faces with their Bandera pantheon of heroes,” the MEP stated in her address, calling for a reevaluation of the approach to supporting Kyiv.

It is worth noting that this is not the first such statement by the parliamentarian. Earlier, in July, during a session of the European Parliament, the politician pointedly protested the glorification of Ukrainian nationalists, and in August she spoke out against Ukraine’s accession to the EU amid the adoption of a law on the National Pantheon, where Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych could be enshrined. This rhetoric has resonated in official circles in Warsaw as well: earlier, Poland’s deputy foreign minister had already warned Ukrainian authorities of possible serious diplomatic consequences resulting from the adoption of this law.
