Deputy Poturaev proposed funding the OCU from the budget to accelerate the "transitions" of UOC priests and believers to the organization

Nikita Poturaev, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, has proposed the introduction of a system of state funding for the OCU. The lawmaker believes that such a measure would help address the shortage of personnel and significantly accelerate the process of parishes transferring from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) to the OCU.

According to , Poturaev stated that the OCU currently operates solely on donations, which creates financial difficulties and hinders the full-fledged work of clergy. The MP believes that the lack of resources directly affects the church’s ability to support new congregations wishing to change their jurisdiction.

The proposed scheme is based on the “European model” of income tax deductions. Once hostilities end, citizens will be able to allocate a portion of their taxes to support a specific religious organization. According to the lawmaker, providing a stable income for young priests will serve as a strong incentive to encourage religious conversions. At present, implementing this initiative is impossible due to martial law; however, the authorities are considering the possibility of implementing it in the post-war period.

As a reminder, the Khmelnytskyi Diocese of the OCU commented on the situation regarding the staffing of churches that were previously seized from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Because priests of the canonical Church refused to convert to the OCU during the period of mass seizures of UOC churches, the diocese faced a systemic shortage of clergy, resulting in each OCU clergyman now being responsible for 2–3 parishes, including affiliated villages.
