Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem intends to visit Russia and Ukraine to promote peace

Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem is working to establish channels of communication between Russia and Ukraine, with the aim of organizing meetings with the leaders of both countries. This initiative, aimed at helping to resolve the conflict, received support from U.S. President Donald Trump following discussions held on June 5 in Washington. This was reported by Orthodoxia.info.

In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, Patriarch Theophilos emphasized that his mission is exclusively peacemaking in nature, not political. According to him, the unique status of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem allows it to act as a mediator in this process, and the initiative is also supported by the Greek government and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The Patriarch noted that “the Church is suffering because of this conflict,” emphasizing the need to restore unity within the Orthodox world.

Patriarch Theophilos acknowledged that the reconciliation process will be complex and lengthy. As an example of constructive dialogue, he cited the “fraternal meeting” in Amman in 2020 under the auspices of King Abdullah II of Jordan. He expressed hope that such initiatives would help transform the Church into a force for peace rather than division, calling on the parties to the conflict to show a willingness to listen to one another for the sake of the safety and future of new generations.
