The Polish Orthodox Church has called the murder of a monk from the Svyatogorsk Lavra a tragedy

The Office of the Primate of the Polish Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Savva of Warsaw and All Poland, commented on the recent tragic incident that occurred at the Svyatogorsk Lavra. The church office expressed deep sorrow over the death of Monk Varsonofius.

Office spokesperson Yaroslav Honchar , speaking on behalf of the Polish Church , strongly condemned acts of violence in the conflict zone, emphasizing that “every armed conflict brings tragedy,” and that raising a hand against another person is a grave offense. Representatives of the clergy expressed their sincere condolences to the abbot and the entire monastic community of the monastery.

An official statement emphasizes that the faithful of the Polish Church are offering prayers for the repose of the soul of the murdered monk Varsonofius and are asking the Lord Jesus Christ to receive him into His Heavenly Kingdom. In addition, the chancery noted that they are praying “for the perpetrators of this crime, that they may receive mercy and come to understand the shameful nature of their act.” Earlier, it was reported that memorial services for the monk were held at the Svyatogorsk Lavra itself on the ninth day after his passing.
