The Supreme Court of Ukraine has opened appellate proceedings in the case of the Korets Monastery

The State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS) has officially announced the initiation of appellate proceedings in the case concerning the activities of the Korets Holy Trinity Stavropegial Convent of the Moscow Patriarchate. This step followed the review of an appeal filed by the religious organization.

According to the GESS website, a panel of judges of the Administrative Court of Cassation, part of the Supreme Court, issued a ruling on September 22, 2026. The decision concerns the consideration of a counterclaim in Case No. 855/2/26, related to the agency’s lawsuit seeking the compulsory termination of the activities of the aforementioned religious organization.

The subject of the legal proceedings was the monastery’s appeal against the ruling of the Sixth Administrative Court of Appeal, issued on August 14, 2026. At present, the legal proceedings are continuing in accordance with the procedural rules established by Ukraine’s administrative legislation.

As a reminder, we previously reported that the media had determined the total value of real estate owned by the Korets Holy Trinity Stavropegial Convent of the Russian Orthodox Church, located in the Rivne region. Journalists expect that all of the monastery’s property will be expropriated by the state once the Holy Trinity Convent loses its legal registration.
