Poland has asked Ukraine for help in investigating the attack on a monastery in Yaroslav

The Polish prosecutor’s office has requested legal assistance from its Ukrainian counterparts as part of an investigation into a high-profile attack on a monastery in the city of Yaroslav. Investigators are trying to determine whether the suspect underwent psychiatric treatment in Ukraine.
The incident occurred on September 24, when a Ukrainian citizen attacked five people on the abbey grounds. As a result of his injuries, Father Stanisław Zboinowicz died, and four others—clergymen and a layperson—suffered serious injuries. According to available information, before arriving in Poland, the man had been in Germany and attempted to return to Ukraine but was unable to cross the border due to a lack of mandatory auto insurance.
At this time, the suspect, identified as Igor M., is in a psychiatric hospital exhibiting symptoms of psychosis. Investigative authorities in Przemyśl, citing the suspect’s origin in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, have requested that Ukrainian authorities question his mother as a witness and provide information about the man’s activities in his home country. Last Wednesday, the suspect was formally charged with murder, attempted murder, and causing serious bodily harm. The man pleaded guilty but refused to provide detailed explanations regarding the substance of the case.
