Lukashenko invited Pope Francis to Belarus

On December 17, 2022, President Alexander Lukashenko invited Pope Francis and his representatives to Belarus and stressed that he and the head of the Vatican have largely the same views on how to resolve world problems. The head of Belarus expressed his invitation in an official congratulation to Francis on his birthday, posted on president.gov.by.

“I am pleased to note that our vision of ways to resolve the most pressing problems of the modern world coincides. I strongly support your call of September 13, 2022 for the revival of the Helsinki spirit,” Lukashenko said. He also agreed with the Pope’s statement about the need to fulfill the obligations that follow from international treaties.

“I am impressed by your wisdom and foresight. You were the first to warn of the threat of a third world war. It’s a pity, but those who were supposed to hear it didn’t listen,” the head of the Belarusian Republic added.
