The Ministry of Culture requires the Chernihiv diocese of the UOC to leave the complex of ancient churches

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine did not extend the lease of a complex of ancient churches to the Chernihiv diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on the territory of the National Architectural and Historical Reserve «Chernihiv Starodavnіy». This is reported by the publication «Dumskaya«.
“Metropolitan of Chernihiv and Novgorod-Seversky Ambrose (Polykop) received a letter from the Ministry of Culture demanding that he leave the complex of historical religious buildings by March 27,” the publication says.
We are talking about the Trinity Monastery of the 17th-18th centuries, the Yelets Monastery of the 12th-17th centuries and the Transfiguration Cathedral of the 11th century, which the diocese previously used free of charge under a lease agreement.
The last time such documents were signed in 2016 and their validity period ended in September 2021.
