Zhytomyr Regional Council banned the activities of the UOC and took the land from the monastery of the Athos Icon of the Mother of God

The Zhytomyr Regional Council banned “the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which has a church-canonical connection with the Russian Orthodox Church” in the region. This was reported by the Telegram channel “Pershyi Kozatskyi”.

In addition, the regional council adopted an appeal to the Verkhovna Rada regarding “the speedy adoption of existing bills to ban the UOC.”

Also, the deputies of the regional council canceled the decision, taken in 2017, to transfer the land to the convent of the Athos Icon of the Mother of God. Vladimir Shirma, deputy chairman of the regional council, spoke about this at a briefing. According to him, now the land plot of the monastery will be in communal ownership.
