Chernivtsi UOC congregations sue local city council

Religious communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church registered in Chernivtsi have filed lawsuits against the local city council. This was told during a press conference by the mayor of the city Roman Klichuk, reports the website “Young Bukovinets”.

“All 22 communities amicably appealed to the court and defend their right in the courts”, – said the mayor of Chernivtsi. The mayor added that the Chernivtsi city Council also sued one of the UOC congregations in the city for allegedly illegal construction of a temple on the territory of the city hospital. It is about the parish of the Holy Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon. In addition, the City Council claims that illegally erected the Church of the Three Saints on Zelenaya Street on the territory of the local cemetery.

We will remind, earlier in April 2023, deputies of the Chernivtsi City Council voted in favor of deprivation of ownership of land plots under 22 temples of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Chernivtsi. Obviously, the lawsuits described by the mayor of the city are a response to the illegal actions of the local authorities.
