SSU proposes to expand the list of reasons for banning UOC religious communities

The head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Malyuk, has suggested expanding the list of reasons for banning religious communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He expressed his point of view in a letter to the Ukrainian parliament, Glavkom has reported.

It is about the addition of one of the bills on the ban of the UOC, which will be adopted in the Verkhovna Rada or adoption as a basis and as a whole new — ¹10126, introduced by the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian Policy Nikita Poturaev. It provides for the addition of the list of legal grounds for termination by court decision of the activities of religious organizations, whose authorized persons have been convicted for committing a crime against the foundations of national security of Ukraine or for committing a criminal offense under Articles 161, 258 — 258-6, 436 — 434 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

These articles are «violation of equal rights of citizens depending on their race, nationality, religious beliefs, disability and other characteristics», «terrorist act», «propaganda of war», «planning, preparation, unleashing and waging aggressive war», «violation of laws and customs of war», «genocide» and «mercenarism».

The SBU expressed its readiness, if necessary, to join and influence the adoption of the amendments proposed by the SBU in the expected law in full.
