The speaker of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church complained that the Rada was dragging out the ban on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church

The head of the press service of the OCU, Yevstratiy Zoria, complains that the Verkhovna Rada is unable to put to a vote Bill 8371, which aims to ban the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. According to Zorya, the “pro-Russian forces” in the Parliament are to blame for the current situation, as they are doing everything to prevent this law from being passed. He said this in a commentary to Radio NV.

“It is obvious to me that there is simply a force that, not being able to openly support the Russian Church now… It’s not like some deputy is going to come to the rostrum and say: “Yes, our dear voters, dear colleagues, I support the fact that the Russian Orthodox Church will continue to lead church life in Ukraine.” There are no such suicidal people. Therefore, they hide their position of support for the Russian presence in the church life of Ukraine behind the fact that the project is imperfect. Let’s consider it for another two years, send it to 10 commissions. That is, we will do anything to avoid considering it,” — Zoria said.

The OCU spokesman added that in fact, there are enough votes in the Ukrainian parliament to pass Bill No. 8371. That is why the opponents of the law banning the UOC are doing everything to prevent it from passing to the session hall.

“What happened, in my opinion? One of the arguments has always been that there are not enough votes to make a decision. But if there were really not enough votes, then from the point of view of those who oppose this bill, the best thing would be to let it be brought to the floor and voted on. If there are no votes, the law will not be adopted and the page will be turned. But it is obvious that the law is not being brought to the floor, because indeed, some MPs, including those who have a decisive influence on the position of the faction, as well as, as is also known, representatives of the fragments of the pro-Russian OPFL that remain in the Verkhovna Rada, opposed the consideration of this bill in the session hall. This provoked this situation,” — the OCU spokesman added.

Earlier, we reported that the head of the OCU Epiphany Dumenko, during his speech at the tenth closed meeting of the LB.ua Club, spoke about the need for a legislative ban on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Dumenko is convinced that despite the imperfections of Bill 8371, it is better that it be adopted in the near future, and only then will it be finalized.
