The OCU urges to accept the law on the ban of the UOC, even if it is imperfect

The speaker of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Yevstratiy Zorya, has once again stated the need for the prompt adoption of draft law No. 8371 aimed at banning the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The representative of the OCU believes that now there is no time to think about the fact that the said draft law has inconsistencies with international legislation. In his opinion, if something is wrong in the law, it will be possible to deal with it after it is adopted. About this he told on his YouTube channel.

“The proposed draft law on “banning MPs” complies with democratic procedures. And although we cannot foresee all the challenges and difficulties that will arise in the course of implementation, can we spend a few more years in debate or adopt it? If new circumstances arise, that is why Parliament exists, to improve, to change something in the law. We see that parliamentarians are ready to vote (we are talking about voting in general – ed.). Therefore, we hope that in a few weeks (it is known that the draft law will be put forward at the next meeting of the Verkhovna Rada at the end of August – ed.) our parliamentarians together with experts will find the best wording for the bill, which will be signed by the President and which will meet the challenge to protect Ukraine from Russian hybrid aggression”, – said the speaker of the OCU.

It is worth noting that a similar opinion was expressed earlier by the head of the OCU, Epifaniy Dumenko, who, during his speech at the tenth closed session of the Lb.ua Club, spoke about the need for a legislative ban on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Dumenko is convinced that despite the imperfection of the draft law No 8371, it is better to pass it in the nearest future and then finalize it.
