"July is not a very attractive month for tourism": in Chernihiv "reserve" complain about the low attendance of the Transfiguration church, which was taken away from the UOC and turned into a museum.

The staff of the Chernihiv Ancient Historical and Architectural Reserve complain about the low attendance of the ancient Spaso-Preobrazhenskyy Cathedral, which was taken away from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and turned into a museum by the state. The “reserve” believes that the small number of visitors is due to July, which is considered a bad period in terms of tourism. About it reports “Suspilne.Chernigiv”.

“On weekends there are more people. Many come from Kiev, and from other cities, but also Chernigovites come to the cathedral. We must take into account that July is not a very attractive month for tourism, looking at the statistics. We hope that in August-September statistics will improve. Moreover, we try to popularize the cathedral by various methods, we hold various events, author’s excursions”, – says the guide Irina.

Recall, earlier we reported that June 28, 2024 was “opening” in the format of a museum of the ancient Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior of Chernihiv, which was taken away from the Chernihiv diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in October 2023. It is reported that from now on the entrance to the temple will be paid, and it is no longer planned to perform Divine services in it.
