OCU supporters seize UOC church in Cherkasy region at night

Late in the evening of September 2, 2024, supporters of the OCU seized the Holy Dormition Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the city of Zolotonosha, Cherkasy region (Cherkasy Diocese of the UOC). According to available information, the raiders had previously surrounded the entire street to prevent the UOC believers from defending the church from seizure. This was reported by the Dozor Telegram channel.

“On September 2, late in the evening, a group of raiders from the OCU seized the Assumption Cathedral of the UOC in the city of Zolotonosha. According to information from the scene, the street near the cathedral was previously blocked so that parishioners and clergy could not even approach their shrine. The raiders waited until it was dark and the lights were out to cut the locks and break into the House of God. The UOC parishioners called the police. They reluctantly accepted a statement about the crime, but refused to identify the thieves,” – the report says.

Earlier we reported that by the decision of Cherkasy city council, Cherkasy diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church lost the land plot under St. Michael’s Cathedral in Cherkasy. It is about a land plot of 8.7 hectares of the so-called “Soborny” park, where the cathedral is located.
