The trial of the vicar of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra postponed again

On September 30, 2024, the Pechersk district court of Kyiv once again postponed the court hearing in the case of Metropolitan Pavel, the vicar of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. This time the case was postponed to October 16 due to the failure of the UOC bishop’s lawyers to appear in court. About it reports “Suspilne”.
“Two defense lawyers – Dmitry Marchenko and Andrey Domansky, filed a motion to postpone the court hearing for the state of their health. Three more lawyers, including Nikita Chekman, “did not show up without reasons”, noted the Secretary of the meeting. In comments to the Public Nikita Chekman said that on Friday, September 27, he applied for postponement of the case due to participation in another session. Pavel Lebed himself was against holding the meeting without defense counsel. The prosecutor also objected to the meeting without defense lawyers, but asked the court to discipline the lawyers for not reporting the reasons for their absence. The judge decided to postpone the meeting to October 16,” – stated in the message.
We will remind, earlier the vicar of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra Metropolitan Pavel (Lebed) softened the conditions of round-the-clock house arrest. Now the bishop will be able to leave home in order to visit medical institutions. The corresponding decision was made by the Pechersky district court of Kiev on January 23, 2024.
