Romanian government will continue to fund the Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia - Prime Minister

On October 4, 2024, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu visited the Republic of Moldova. During the visit, the Romanian prime minister held a meeting with the head of the Metropolitanate of Bessarabia of the Romanian Patriarchate, Metropolitan Petru (Paduraru), to whom he promised to continue financial support for the structure of the Romanian Orthodox Church on the territory of Moldova. TV Moldova reported.
“I assured His Eminence Metropolitan Peter that I will continue to support the Metropolitan of Bessarabia with all my strength, including financially for the construction and renovation of churches and social centers in Moldova. We have strong ties, but we also need a spiritual bridge between citizens on both sides of the Prut, and this can be realized only through the Church,” — Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said.
Recall, earlier we reported that more than 60 parishes of the Orthodox Church of Moldova (as part of the Moscow Patriarchate) moved to the Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia of the Romanian Orthodox Church. One of the most recent cases occurred in the town of Cricova, where the PCM parish in honor of St. Alexander of Svir celebrated its “return” to the Romanian Patriarchate.
