“OCU is a political project” - Robert Amsterdam

The head of the international human rights company Amsterdam & Partners LLP, Robert Amsterdam, who represents the legal interests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, spoke about the church-political situation in Ukraine in light of the recent seizure of the Archangel Michael Cathedral in Cherkasy. The lawyer believes that the OCU, in favor of which radicals are seizing UOC churches, functions as one of the political projects of the Ukrainian government and will quickly decline without state support. The lawyer wrote about this on his account on the social network X.

“I would like to explain that the only truly independent church in Ukraine is the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Orthodox Church of Ukraine is a government-sponsored political project. It is largely dependent on the Ukrainian state, which carries out violent seizures, as in Cherkasy,” – Amsterdam wrote.

Earlier, Robert Amsterdam warned that the MPs and officials who initiated the legal ban on the UOC would bear international responsibility. The lawyer called August 20 “a dark chapter in the history of human rights in Ukraine.”
