“Amsterdam: Zelensky should be ashamed of his abuse and mistreatment of Orthodox Christians

The head of the international human rights company Amsterdam & Partners LLP, Robert Amsterdam, who represents the legal interests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his continuous pressure on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The human rights activist was outraged by the fact that Ukrainian courts are actually mocking Orthodox bishops, who, being in poor health, are forced to repeatedly participate in meetings at which no resolutions are passed. The lawyer wrote about this in his account in X.

«We were informed that Metropolitan Longin, who has long suffered from serious illnesses, had a heart attack during one of the long hearings related to his show trial. He was rushed to the hospital. We fully condemn these false accusations against Longin and others, and we condemn Ukraine’s use of the judicial system as a tool of torture and intimidation of the UOC clergy. President Zelensky should hang his head in shame for the abuse and ill-treatment of Orthodox Christians made possible by Law 3894,” Amsterdam wrote.

Earlier, Robert Amsterdam warned that the deputies and officials who initiated the legal ban on the UOC would bear international responsibility. The lawyer called August 20 “a dark chapter in the history of human rights in Ukraine.”
