German Diocese of ROCOR condemns seizure of UOC Cathedral in Cherkasy

The German Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia has condemned the seizure of the Archangel Michael Cathedral of the Cherkasy Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by supporters of the OCU. The statement says that the DECR will do everything to ensure that as many people as possible learn about the event that took place in Cherkasy. This is reported by the Telegram channel “Herald of the German Diocese”.

“We regret to note that on October 17, 2024, armed men seized and looted the Cathedral in Cherkasy. Metropolitan Theodosius and the faithful who stood up to defend the shrines and courageously, through their deeds, profess faith in Christ and loyalty to canonical Orthodoxy, were beaten. We call on the faithful of the German Eparchy to intensify their prayers for the confessors of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church! The German Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia will continue its important ministry of witnessing to the persecution of Christians, which has been one of its main missions since its founding. For many decades, it has tirelessly raised its voice in defense of believers who are persecuted around the world. Metropolitan Mark sent letters to the OBKD (Conference of Orthodox Bishops of Germany) and the Catholic Church,” the statement reads.

Earlier, we reported that the hierarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Gabriel of Lovechanka, sent a letter to the head of the Cherkasy Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kaniv, in which he expressed support for the seizure of the Cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel in Cherkasy.
