Hierarch of Greek Church speaks in defense of UOC

The hierarch of the Greek Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Seraphim of Kythira and Antikythera, spoke in defense of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The bishop pointed out that the clergy and believers of the UOC are being brutally persecuted by the Ukrainian government. Metropolitan Seraphim stated this in his message on the occasion of the beginning of the Christmas fast, which was published on the website of the Diocese of Kythira.

“We pray that the cruel and merciless persecution of the Orthodox clergy, monastics and other Christians of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church by the authorities of this country will stop,” — the hierarch wrote.

Earlier, the hierarch of the Jerusalem Patriarchate, Archbishop Theodosius of Sevastopol, called on the Local Orthodox Churches to form a common position on the persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The hierarch believes that the persecution of the Church, which is taking place in Ukraine and which, in particular, recently affected the Cherkasy Diocese of the UOC, where the Cathedral was seized, is gaining momentum and becoming more violent. He called for everything to be done to stop the persecution of the UOC.
