OCU supporters seize Holy Dormition Cathedral of UOC in Kremenchuk

On December 27, 2024, supporters of the OCU, with the assistance of the police, carried out a raider seizure of the Holy Dormition Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Kremenchuk, Poltava region. The raiders cut off the locks on the central doors of the church and, having made their way inside, broke down the Royal Gate “to conduct an inventory” in the altar of the cathedral. This was reported on the official Facebook page of the Assumption Cathedral.

“On 27.12.2024, the OCU raiders entered the Holy Dormition Cathedral by cutting the locks to conduct a so-called inventory of church property. All this happened with the tacit consent of law enforcement officers. They broke down the royal gate of the iconostasis and entered the altar, one of the OCU activists went through the royal gate and looked at what was inside, although according to church rules only priests and their assistants can enter the altar. Moreover, the activists behaved aggressively, were rude, abusive, and used swear words. Raiders who do not believe in God, people who split society and sow religious hatred. This process was led, as in previous times, by Archimandrite Theodosius Ovcharuk, who was banned from the priesthood. I would like to note separately that among those who came to inventory the property there were no people who had done anything for this church. They were raiders who came to take away the property of the UOC religious community,” — the statement said.

Earlier we reported that the head of the OCU Epiphany Dumenko accused representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of creating provocations during the seizures of UOC churches by supporters of the OCU. He claims that priests and believers of the UOC do this in order to “create a picture for Russian propaganda.”
