Heads of UGCC and OCU discuss deepening interfaith cooperation

On January 14, 2025, the heads of the UGCC and the OCU, Sviatoslav Shevchuk and Epiphany Dumenko, met. Representatives of the denominations discussed issues of deepening mutual cooperation. This is reported by the UGCC website.

“The parties discussed issues of interchurch and interdenominational cooperation, in particular in the format of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, as well as the possibility of resuming the work of the Kyivan Church Studio Group. They also discussed the results of the visits of Metropolitan Epifaniy to the Vatican and His Beatitude Sviatoslav to Constantinople,” – the press release reads.

As reported, the hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Luke of Zaporizhzhia and Melitopol, is convinced that the purpose of the legislative ban on the UOC is the complete destruction of the Church. In addition, the metropolitan claims that eventually the remnants of the UOC and the OCU will be integrated into the UGCC, and Ukraine will thus become a testing ground for developing a mechanism for uniting the Patriarchate of Constantinople and the Vatican.
