A criminal case is opened against a resident of the Transcarpathian region for supporting a persecuted UOC priest in social networks

SBU officers have charged a resident of Zakarpattia region with “inciting religious hatred” and “destabilizing the situation in the region” for her posts on social media. The reason for such charges is the woman’s support for a convicted local clergyman of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, who was previously suspected by the SBU of spreading communist ideology, as well as insults to representatives of other faiths. This was reported on the Facebook page of the SSU Office in Zakarpattia region.

“In her messages, the agitator used the narratives of Russian propaganda. In particular, she insulted the parishioners of one of the religious denominations. The offender also justified the criminal actions of the rector of one of the churches of the Khust diocese of the UOC (MP), whom the SSU had previously exposed for propaganda of the communist regime. By her actions, the woman contributed to the aggravation of the internal situation in the region by inciting religious hatred and enmity. This was confirmed by the linguistic examination initiated in the case. The agitator has now been served a notice of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 161 (violation of equality of citizens based on their race, nationality, religion, religious beliefs, disability and other grounds) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” — the SSU said.

We will remind, earlier we reported that the Security Service of Ukraine said that they had collected evidence of “anti-Ukrainian activities” of the rector of the temple and the priest of the monastery of the Khustka diocese of the UOC in Transcarpathia. According to the Raskolam.net editorial board, the reason for the accusation was the “Happy Victory Day” greeting cards that the priests posted on their social networks.
