OCU supporters seize UOC church in Bukovina

On March 6, 2025, supporters of the OCU seized the Holy Dormition Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the village of Komarintsy, Chernivtsi region. The raider attack took place with the connivance of law enforcement agencies, which did not prevent the seizure of the UOC church. This was reported by the Telegram channel of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Eparchy of the UOC.

“Today, on the day of the reading of the final part of the Great Penitential Canon of St. Andrew of Crete, the Holy Dormition Church in the village of Komarivtsi, Bukovyna, was seized. Taking advantage of the fact that the dean of the Storozhynets district is currently hospitalized, the fathers of the OCU, together with representatives of the National Police, seized the church,” — the diocese reported.

Earlier we reported that on February 26, 2025, an unidentified state registrar re-registered the Holy Spirit, Mykolaiv and Peter and Paul communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to the OCU. Yaroslav (Feognost) Bodoryak, the head of the Chernivtsi Diocese of the OCU, was appointed as the head of these religious organizations. The communities were re-registered despite the fact that the UOC communities had previously held a meeting at which they voted to refuse to change their confessional affiliation.
