"Outrageous cynicism": Reserve expelling UOC monks from Lavra holds "monastic forum"

The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve, which initiated the process of evicting the monks of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the monastery, held a “monastic forum” on the territory of the monastery called the First Paisian Readings. The organizers and participants of the event were engaged in “comprehending the role of monasticism in the modern world, searching for new forms of ministry and dialogue between the clergy, scholars and the state.” This was reported on the official Facebook page of the “reserve”.

According to the organizers, the “monastic forum” brought together clergy, scholars, researchers and representatives of monasteries in the National Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” to discuss not only the history but also the future of monastic life in Ukraine in a lively dialogue format. However, of those who can be seen in the photo, only members of several monasteries in the capital of the OCU represented “monasticism.”

“Spiritual liberation, the search for the prospect of the future is the main task for this synergy between the state and the church, between the reserve and the monastery. This is very important for the further formation of Ukraine in the ongoing struggle. Now there is a huge demand in society for strategic thinking. And what you are doing now, remembering the prominent figures of our culture and spirituality, is a contribution to this strategic thinking,” – said Maksym Ostapenko, the director general of the reserve.

Earlier, we reported that the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine formed a special commission to “check the relics” of the Kyiv Caves Saints, who rest in the Holy Dormition Kyiv Caves Monastery. It is not known what kind of “inspection” the commission will conduct, since, according to the Ministry, the results of its work will be classified.
