Earlier, we reported that the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine formed a special commission to “check the relics” of the Kyiv Caves Saints, who rest in the Holy Dormition Kyiv Caves Monastery. It is not known what kind of “inspection” the commission will conduct, since, according to the Ministry, the results of its work will be classified.
The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine seized the Near and Far Caves of the Kyiv Cave Monastery
On the morning of March 28, 2025, representatives of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, accompanied by the police, seized the Near and Far Caves of the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, where the imperishable relics of the Kyiv-Pechersk monks rest. The invaders broke down the doors at the entrances to the caves and installed their own locks. Access to the caves for the monastery brethren is completely restricted. It is unknown what the representatives of the Ministry of Culture are doing in the caves. This is reported by the Telegram channel LAVRA live.
“On the morning of March 28, representatives of the so-called commission arrived at the territory of the Lower Caves of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra to “inventory and verify” the holy relics in the Near Caves. They plan to open the caskets, count the holy relics, and even take samples for DNA testing. This sacrilegious process is accompanied by security forces, which in itself exposes the true purpose of this action. This is not just an act of vandalism – it is a direct blasphemy against God. Disregard for shrines will not go unpunished, and anyone who raises a hand to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra will be held accountable before God. It should be noted that by order of March 5, the Ministry of Culture classified information about the work of this commission. It is headed by Volodymyr Shornikov, director of the department for the “protection” of cultural heritage. Minister of Culture Mykola Tochytskyi personally controls this process,” – the media reported.
