Construction of OCU church begins in Dnipro suburb

The construction of a new OCU church has begun in the suburb of Dnipro — the village of Slobozhanske. The official opening of the construction was led by the head of the local branch of the OCU, Simeon Zinkevich. The event was attended by representatives of local authorities and a few residents of the village. This was reported on the official Facebook page of the Dnipro Diocese of the OCU.

«The construction of the church began in a promising neighborhood where residential buildings, high-rise buildings and social infrastructure are being actively built. In the future, the new church will become a spiritual center for residents of the newly created neighborhoods, a place of prayer, support and community unity,» — the press service of the Dnipro Diocese of the OCU said in a statement.

In addition, it is noted that the events were attended by representatives of local “elites”.

«The festive service was attended by the secretary of the village council Lyudmila Lagoda, deputy village head Svetlana Vusik, and the head of the Dnipro District Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support Alexander Volnikov. For their sacrificial participation in the construction of the church and support of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Simeon presented church awards to the donors, including the secretary of the Slobozhansky village council, Lyudmila Lagoda, and the general director of the Agricultural and Production Enterprise “Sodruzhestvo” Vladimir Kononov,» — the OCU reported.

Earlier, we reported that the Ternopil City Council transferred to the religious community of the OCU a land plot (at Ternopil, Konovaltsia Street, 1), where the Cathedral and the diocesan administration of the Ternopil Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church are located. This decision was made by the city council despite the fact that the Supreme Court of Ukraine seized the land, prohibiting the city council from disposing of the property in any way. Now the OCU community, which was given the land under the UOC Cathedral, is going to build a chapel there.
