Court extends preventive measure for Metropolitan Theodosius

On May 13, 2025, the Sosnovsky District Court of Cherkasy held a regular court hearing in the case against the hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kaniv. At the request of the prosecutor in this proceeding, the court extended the measure of restraint in the form of a personal commitment. This was reported by Suspilne.Cherkasy.
“There are risks, so it is necessary to extend the preventive measure. Being at large, Snigirev can influence witnesses and hide from the investigation, and can continue to commit other crimes similar to those with which he is accused, so we ask to extend the measure of restraint in the form of a personal commitment,” – the prosecutor said.
In turn, the Metropolitan’s lawyer, Vladimir Yudin, noted that the risks announced by the prosecutor are unfounded and “built on assumptions.”
“For example, we have already examined the witnesses, we have interrogated them, so there is no risk,” – Yudin said.
In the end, after the deliberation room, the court decided to extend the preventive measure in the form of a personal commitment with the fulfillment of his duties for a period of two months, that is, until July 13.
Earlier, we reported that the Supreme Court of Ukraine upheld the verdict against the former head of the Tulchyn Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Jonathan (Yelets), who was sentenced to 5 years in prison and, as a result, exchanged for Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russia.
