Zelensky plans to attend enthronement of newly elected pope

Volodymyr Zelenskyy plans to attend the enthronement of the newly elected Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican, which is scheduled for May 18. The Head of State will visit the Vatican if he has time for it in his schedule. This was reported by the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak in a commentary to Reuters.
According to Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian state will be ready to hold talks with any other world leaders on the sidelines of the inaugural Mass. Yermak added that the new pontiff told Zelensky in a phone conversation on Monday that he was ready to facilitate such meetings and promised to “do everything possible” to help achieve a just and lasting peace. The inaugural Mass of Pope Leo XIV will be held in St. Peter’s Square on Sunday, May 18. A number of world leaders are expected to attend.
«He (Zelenskyy — ed.) is planning to come, but you know that we have several more very important meetings before Sunday. Of course, it’s hard to be sure during the war, but I know he will be happy to be in Rome on that day,» — Yermak said.
Earlier, we reported that Pope Leo XIV confirmed that the Vatican is working on organizing his meeting with Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople.
