Ukrainian delegation led by Zelenskyy attends the enthronement of Pope Leo XIV

On May 18, 2025, a Ukrainian government delegation headed by Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended the enthronement of the newly elected Pope Leo XIV. The pontiff paid special attention and granted an audience to the head of the Ukrainian state, his wife, and Ukrainian top officials. This was reported on Zelensky’s Telegram channel.
“We are grateful for today’s special words at the solemn Mass about the need for a just peace and for the attention to Ukraine and our people. Every nation deserves to live in peace and security. Congratulations on the beginning of this special mission. And may the prayers for a just peace and a decent life for all people be answered,” — Zelensky wrote.
Earlier, the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Pietro Parolin, said that the newly elected Pope Leo XIV plans to offer the Vatican as a platform for direct dialogue between representatives of Russia and Ukraine.
