Patriarch Kirill: The Russian Orthodox Church Is Ready to Cooperate with the Vatican in Protecting Traditional Values

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Rus’ expressed the readiness of the Russian Orthodox Church to deepen cooperation with the Vatican. Despite certain difficulties in their relations, the Churches maintain a dialogue aimed at jointly addressing important issues, including the protection of traditional Christian values, promoting peace, supporting Christians suffering persecution, environmental protection, and humanitarian cooperation. This was reported by the TASS news agency.
Patriarch Kirill made these remarks during an Easter reception at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also noted that the election of the new Pope, Pope Leo XIV, opens new opportunities to strengthen the relationship between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church.
“We maintain ties with the Roman Catholic Church and are ready to continue developing our dialogue,” the Patriarch emphasized.
He particularly highlighted the role of Pope Francis, who, according to Patriarch Kirill, maintained a positive attitude toward the Russian Orthodox Church throughout his pontificate. “He made a significant contribution to strengthening relations between our Churches,” Kirill added. “His position was sincere and benevolent toward the Russian Orthodox Church.”
Earlier, it was reported that His Holiness Patriarch Kirill congratulated the new head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV, on his election to the papal throne. In an official message, the Patriarch expressed hope for the further development of relations between the Eastern and Western Christian traditions.
