We recently reported that the head of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine Mykola Tochytskyi announced the transfer of the Holy Dormition (St. George) Cathedral in Kaniv, which was previously taken away from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, to the OCU. The head of the Ministry of Culture called the transfer of the church to the Ukrainian schism “the purification of Ukrainian shrines.”
In Kaniv, representatives of OCU and UGCC jointly “prayed for Taras Shevchenko”

On May 22, 2025, representatives of the OCU and the UGCC held joint religious events on Tarasova Hill on the occasion of the 164th anniversary of the reburial of the famous Ukrainian writer Taras Shevchenko. The memorial service for Shevchenko was led by the head of the OCU Epiphany Dumenko. Together with him, representatives of the UGCC, whom the writer himself noted in his works with unflattering words, pointing to the disastrousness of the union for the Ukrainian people, “prayed for Taras Shevchenko”. This is reported by the website of the UGCC.
It is reported that representatives of the UGCC — Igor Kotenko, Igor Ambrose and Yevhen Makogon — also took part in the events led by the head of the OCU. They, along with other participants, prayed for the repose of the soul of the great Ukrainian poet and prophet. In addition, representatives of the UGCC were also present during the act of transferring the ancient Holy Dormition Cathedral in Kaniv, which was taken away from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In the church, representatives of the OCU and the UGCC held an “interfaith prayer”.
